When I started missing Japan once a while I realised that I haven’t posted about my Hokkaido trip back in January yet.  Winter in Hokkaido was so quiet and peaceful.  Things covered with snow and everything was white.  Cold weather didn’t bother me at all and I really loved the atmosphere there.

I promise this is the last post about Iceland …before you guys get tired. But trust me, one trip is never enough and I’m already craving for another meet up with this beautiful island.

img_5558I never plan too details for my travels. I don’t have schedules or itineraries, just some places in my head those I didn’t want to miss out.  And then I just improvised and see what unplanned surprise or adventure ahead waiting for me.

Jökulsárlón was absolute the reason I visited Iceland.  It blew my mind by only browsing the photos but the day I went was not a good day.  The weather was bad , no sunlight and the boat trip was cancelled due to strong wind.  Okay, I still can go to see the blocks of ices on the black sand beach, I thought.  But then the driver took us to the other side of the beach where was not about the view I tempted to see!!!  I was so disappointed and a bit regretted of joining this day tour when I could have chosen another two days tour including glacier hiking, aurora hunting and everything else I missed on this day.

About the blue lagoon experience there is more details on my another blog post :)

Airbnb was my first option in terms of accommodation in Iceland but later I realised as a solo traveler that it would be cheaper if I stayed at a hostel. And it was also easier for me to be picked up by the local tours.

  – I stayed at Bus Hostel for the whole trip. It was a nice, clean and decent place to stay in Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland. During the night the light at the corridor was always on which made me feel safe to go to bathroom in the midnight. We had a cozy and vintage living room with the last cheese burger in Iceland XD Every night they have happy hour at the pub and sometimes music performance which is located at the living room as well.

– BONUS is everyone’s favourite in Iceland for groceries and food. Most of the time I cooked at the hostel and prepared my lunch box (for the day tours) to save money for other delicious meals in Reykjavík.

Reykjavík Roasters is my favourite cafe in Reykjavík.  I still can’t forget their breakfast – croissant with cheese, blueberries jam and Icelandic butter.

Appelsin is orange tasted soft drink that you can only find in Iceland. Remember to give it a try and I love it so much!

I didn’t try the famous Icelandic lamb soup, instead I had grilled lamb for lunch.    Tips: lunch at Grillmarkadurinn is more affordable for backpackers!

I heard about a lot of “the best” in terms of food in Iceland : the best hot dog, lobster soup, Icelandic ice cream in the world…even tap water XD so I tried them all.

I don’t know is it because of the Icelandic water or what…to me, the best coffee and Coke I have ever had was the one I had in Iceland.  If you ask me what is the difference, I can’t really tell but…its just different and you must try when you are there.  Now I think maybe it’s a good thing I don’t live in Iceland otherwise I will drink Coke, Applesin and coffee everyday.  One more thing, the tap water does taste really good.

Reykjavík is not too big and I spent all of my time in the capital on foot.  My two favourite buildings there – Harpa Concert and Conference Centre and Hallgrimskirkja help me to get the direction and find the way home.   Tips: getting to the top of church you can get a view of the city.

I realised I’m missing Iceland more and more every time I blog about it.  It took a big part of my heart and I always dream about going back.  It is a place easy to get to but hard to forget.

PS.  I will be updating another similar post but in Chinese on my Facebook page.  Connect with me if you have Facebook or Instagram!!

I didnt plan at all when I travelled to Amsterdam.  Just decided what to do and where to go on the day or the night before.  When I came back I found out I had missed a lot of the tourists’ spots or so but I dont feel pity (well a bit) because I know I will find a way back to Amsterdam…since I love it so much.

Here is the story of my last day there.

I went to Van Gogh Museum AGAIN.  Because the day before when I arrived it was too busy and too many people waiting to get in.  So I decided to go to Albert Cuypmarket instead and come back again earlier on the next day.

Later at night I found out the same thing happened to my three roommates at the hostel. So we just decided to go together to the museum!! And the day before we didnt even really talk or know each other yet!  Thats why I love staying at a hostel.

Before we started to get to the museum they brought me to a cafe to enjoy some sun and…weed XD image image image

I was wearing: Topshop denim jacket, Nike Roshe One flyknit, Longchamp bag.

After saying goodbye to my friends I walked around and found out it was the day of the month that had museum market!!  Another lovely surprise without any planning :)

Had two Holland’s fries in a day….just because the first one was too good and I couldnt help buying another one from this No.1 voted store..but…sometimes its better not to follow the travel guide or adviser. Best served with mayonnaise.

The last surprise was my new roommate who is from Taiwan.  When I returned hostel I tended to stay and sleep early because I had an early flight to catch.  Then we ended up exploring the red light district at night, had a nice dinner and a space cake!  A nice end of my trip.  See you again soon Ams, so much love. xxx
